Controversial Sunscreen Chemical Widespread
OBGYN News, April 15, 2008: Everyone knows we need sunscreen on our skin to prevent aging and pre-cancerous damage from the sun, BUT new research has found the most popular sunscreen, BP-3 also known as benzophenone-3, and oxybenzone, and has been found to be dangerous to unborn infants, and therefore is suspect for damaging the cells of adults. This sunscreen is now under investigation by the FDA.
Check your sunscreen and if you are pregnant, do not use anything with this drug in it. If you are not pregnant, use it at your own risk.
Sunscreen and Vitamin D Deficiency
Journal of Endocrinology 2008: Widespread use of sunscreens has caused a Vitamin D deficiency in many people who believe they are protecting their skin from sun damage. The outcome of this deficiency is an increase in Osteoporosis, and Colon Cancer, from a decrease in Vitamin D.
Remember that anything can be dangerous in the extreme! You should consider moderate sun exposure healthy, and if that is not possible, supplement your Vitamin D orally.

New Patient Options Available
During the last 18 months, BioBalance 4 Women has been increasing the number of women we treat in St. Louis. We are thrilled with our success, but are experiencing some growing pains.
Our goal is to treat all women who need bio-identical hormone pellets, as conveniently as possible, and in a timely fashion, so we have changed some of our protocols to better serve our new patients:
- Call 314-993-0963 and leave a message if you need a New Patient packet (also available on our website), an appointment, or if you just have a question. One of our nurses will call you back.
- Email your questions or new patient packet to us at biobalance4women@aol.com and we will call you to schedule an appointment time. (Email is checked daily during the week.)
- Sign up for a new, group visit for new patients (3-5 patients) at a discounted cost, which will move the date of your initial appointment up. These visits will be offered one evening a month.
- Take advantage of our Saturday hours for new patients and pellet insertions every other month in St. Louis. We travel to Kansas City one Friday every other month as well.
- When contacting us, please specify which option(s) you are interested in, so that we may accommodate you more effectively.
